When Senate Dems caucus tomorrow, the Democratic leadership is likely to propose that [Lieberman] keep his Homeland Security chairmanship but lose a lesser sub-committee chairmanship instead, according to a source familiar with the situation.
If it happens that way, Senate Dems will be allowing Lieberman to keep his plum spot despite the fact that he has been a disaster at the post, and despite the fact that he endorsed efforts by the GOP to imply that Obama is in league with terrorists, suggested that Obama endangered our troops, and said Obama hasn’t always put the country first.
It’s crap like this that keeps me from committing to the Democrats. Forget all the campaigning for the opposition – we already knew he was a weasel. No, the true crime for which Joe should be hung by his underdeveloped testicles is the failure to mount a single serious investigation against the Bush Administration. Think Progress has the whole damning report.
Why does he even want the chairmanship? He conducted “zero proactive investigations into Bush administration malfeasance” in 2007. (Compare that to Waxman’s House committee, which launches an investigation every time he hears a fart drop). Here’s Newsweek in January of 07:
Sen. Joe Lieberman, the only Democrat to endorse President Bush’s new plan for Iraq, has quietly backed away from his pre-election demands that the White House turn over potentially embarrassing documents relating to its handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans.
Here’s the Chicago Tribune, same month:
As the hearing began, a protester stood and unfurled a banner urging “Probe the White House,” a reference to calls for establishment of a commission to investigate the administration’s response to Katrina, modeled after the Sept.11 commission.
Speaking later to reporters, the committee chairman, Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, said he would rather focus on the rebuilding effort and was reluctant to mount an investigation of the failures of the initial response.
“We don’t want to play`gotcha’ anymore,”
Fuck this clown. I’m still holding out hope that Rahm Emanuel is working behind the scenes on this. Or was this just a figment of someone’s imagination back in June?
[D]uring a Senate vote Wednesday, Obama dragged Lieberman by the hand to a far corner of the Senate chamber and engaged in what appeared to reporters in the gallery as an intense, three-minute conversation.
While it was unclear what the two were discussing, the body language suggested that Obama was trying to convince Lieberman of something and his stance appeared slightly intimidating.
Using forceful, but not angry, hand gestures, Obama literally backed up Lieberman against the wall, leaned in very close at times, and appeared to be trying to dominate the conversation, as the two talked over each other in a few instances.
I keep reading that elections have consequences. They must mean “unless you’re a senator”. I half think these guys close ranks on Lieberman so as not to embolden the dirty fucking internet hippies who are calling for his head. Because then they’ll be next…
