“Crazy things are happening”

Saw the John Stewart gag reel of the inauguration festivities and wanted to post up the full clip of the closing benediction delivered by 87 year-old Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery. This guy is a cool cat for any number of reasons, not least of which is being one of the original members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference founded in the wake of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. Let all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen. And Amen.

(When I went hunting around YouTube for the clip I was surprised to find the comments filled up with accusations of racism against this great man. Clearly a case of mass idiocy brought on by one of the hatemongers, only question was which one…. turns out it was Beck. You almost have to be a drooling moron to listen to Beck… that he has managed to flip his gig on the Headline News Ignorance Hour into a show on a semi-reputable network is a fucking mystery. My only guess is that the corporate media stooges are positioning themselves to cash in on “the backlash”. Either way, Glenn Beck is now officially the whitest man in America.)

Getting back to Rev. Lowery, that he was asked to give the benediction was truly fitting. Not only as the counterpoint to “SaddlebackRick Warren, but also because he was there at the beginning of Obama’s nascent presidential bid with the eye of the prophet. I love this video in all its lo-fi splendor…

I guess part of all the hypocrisy, has to include the hypocrisy antidote that is inspiration. THAT IS THE GOOD KIND OF CRAZY, PRAISE GOD!!

I was always offended by “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.” The pro-asian lobby’s ability to perpetrate this anti-subcontinent rhetoric as some form of water conservation was beyond me. And to throw one minority under the bus to save yourselves? Uncle Tomiko’s.

Glad to hear the reverend cleared it up. Or was he just channeling the late former minister of defense: Reginald Howard “Reggie” White. (see his speech before the wisconsin state legislature in march, 1998. “asians can turn a tv into a watch!” not sure that’s a good thing…)

Finally, Richard Vinegar (is it pronounced VINE – GAR??) has put his fingers on the key board again. Well said, Dick.

answer this, how come bubba foshay never covered “the time has come today”?

    Greetings and salutations,

Nice work on the minimization of the cost of this visualization, and I do agree that the hours for animation, will be essential to the preservation of our reputation.
