Hal McRae is not pleased

By now most folks are probably aware that the Sotomayor confirmation hearings have, among other things, featured cries that she is an angry racist, from people who are themselves objectively angry racists.  Here’s Sen. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III (R-Ala) , leading the opposition and doing his damnable best to keep from calling her a Puerto Rican (he manages to spit out “of Puerto Rican ancestry” at the last second):

For the record, Sessions is a former US Attorney who tried and failed to get a judgeship on the US District Court of Alabama back in the day, because of things like this:

At the time Sessions didn’t think the KKK was such a terrible group. He was overheard by several employees saying, that he “‘used to think they [the Klan] were ‘OK’ until he found out some of them were ‘pot smokers.'” The marijuana was the dealbreaker, not the violence or the white supremacy. While Sessions was complaining about his responsibility as a U.S. attorney to preserve the civil rights of minorities, Sonia Sotomayor was on the board of an organization dedicated to preserving them.

Sessions was only “joking” of course.  It didn’t stop the Senate Judiciary Committee from killing his nomination on the grounds of “gross insensitivity” in regards to racial issues.  So what happens next?  Jackbag becomes a Senator and claws his way into a leadership position on the committee that found him lacking way back when.  Yay for America.

I guess it’s true what they say:

Those who can, judge; those who can’t, vote not to confirm.

All of which is an overlong way of introducing this link:

THE CONFIRMATION HEARING OF SONIA SOTOMAYER, IF THE HEARING WERE HELD IN FRONT OF THE 1977 KANSAS CITY ROYALS INSTEAD OF THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE.

UPDATE

I guess reefer really is a gateway drug…
